FedEx Express Canada, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX),announced today that its couriers, social media channels, andinternal communications will now retransmit active AMBER Alertbroadcasts to its 6,500 Canadian-based employees, including itsalmost 3,000 couriers.
“With the continued growth in e-commerce, our couriers deliver tomore areas around Canada than ever before ensuring our eyes andears are there to assist in locating missing children when needed,”said Lisa Lisson, president of FedEx Express Canada. “As lovingparents and proud Canadians, our employees want to be of service tothe community and help keep our children safe from harm.”
The Ontario AMBER Alert Program is a voluntary cooperative planbetween the Ontario Association of Broadcasters, law enforcementagencies, and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. The programis used to alert the public in child abduction cases where policebelieve the child is in danger of bodily harm or death.
When an AMBER Alert is activated, the police count on thousandsof eyes watching for victims, suspects, or suspects’ vehicles.
“The AMBER Alert program has proven to be an extremely valuableand successful tool in helping law enforcement services across thecountry locate abducted children,” said Bryan Larkin, chief ofpolice, Waterloo Regional Police and co-chair of the Ontario AMBERAlert Steering Committee. “We are extremely proud to have FedExExpress Canada join the AMBER Alert Program as we collectivelyshare these very important messages. Anytime the AMBER AlertProgram can be expanded to include a larger audience is beneficial,since it means more eyes are out there helping us and, moreimportantly, children and their families.”
Should an abduction occur that meets the criteria of an AMBERAlert, the alert will be broadcast directly to FedEx Express Canadathrough a special communications protocol. This protocol ensuresthe broadcast is sent directly to the company’s couriers via theirmobile “Power Pads”, the handheld instruments customers routinelyuse to sign for a parcel delivery. FedEx Express Canada will alsorebroadcast AMBER Alerts through their Facebook and Twitter pages,as well as on internal video screens.
